He lost a friend in the WTC and "sought to express the extremity of his feelings by making a monument to what he calls the "extremity of choice" faced by the people who jumped" (Esquire article) He was ashamed that people were hurt by the sculpture. He begged the museum director to wait it out before removing it but the museum was receiving bomb threats. It is so sad that art is so misunderstood.Wendy Willishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03266577777419922879noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3788371985310037694.post-88710233357997366982011-07-08T12:57:53.750-07:002011-07-08T12:57:53.750-07:00Beautiful and terrible and beautiful. And beautiful work that you made.

I remember that there was a sculptor who did a piece called "Tumbling Woman" shortly after 9/11 and it caused such an uproar that it was removed from the site. Too morbid? Too powerful? I agree with you: it was an act of courage to jump. Such courage should be commemorated. Powerful work.Annie Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00178236295806176573noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3788371985310037694.post-40799791565996458572011-07-08T12:48:08.185-07:002011-07-08T12:48:08.185-07:00A stunning, moving piece, Wendy.
